When In Need Medical Mission sojourns to IDP Camp Abuja, Nigeria
On the 23rd of April, When In Need Foundation team led a medical mission to the IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camp in Kuchingoro, FCT Abuja Nigeria in collaboration with Wazobia FM radio station, Abuja. WIN provided free approved medical supplies for the mission while Wazobia FM offered free radio publicity to inform members of the public about the devastating living conditions of the IDPs. The combined effort also helped spark some donations from the public in form of food items and clothing. The Mission was led by CEO of When In Need Ms Chetachi Ecton, Director of Projects for Africa – Mr.Casmir Nwoga, Media Director – George Onuorah, Project Director, USA – Mr. Kayode Malomo, Program Coordinator for Africa – Chuckwuma Okere and Director of Govt Relations – Ms Stella Oduyela Obi. Leading the mission with a team of 5 medical doctors, optometrists, nurses, medical laboratory scientists, social service professionals and support staff, the program addressed various medical conditions and general health needs of IDPs particularly women and children including those that have been displaced by Boko Haram. About 600 IDPS were treated free for various medical conditions which included malaria, high blood pressure, bacterial infection, diarrhea and a host of other ailments. On May 16th, The When In Need Foundation hosted the Prom Dress Giveaway in honor of deserving graduating Seniors at the Please Touch Museum in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia.
Thirty young women nominated by their schools from across the Philadelphia area were able to pick out the designer prom dresses of their dreams for their big night donated by the Foundation.
“The Magical Moment” event was a big success with more than 100 attendees with the elegant centennial architecture of Please Touch Museum’s Memorial Hall serving as the backdrop for an afternoon of glamour.
Welcoming remarks were made by Superintendent of Philadelphia Schools Dr. William R. Hite, Philadelphia’s Chief Education Officer Otis Hackney III, 7th District Senator Vincent Hughes Chief of Staff, Please Touch Museum President & CEO Patricia D. Wellenbach and CEO of When In Need Foundation, Ms Chetachi Ecton.
